If you’ve lost one or more teeth, you may have noticed how important these are for your appearance and oral health. Our teeth work together as we chew, talk, sing and laugh. If we lose our teeth, it will be a little more difficult for us to do these activities. However, we are lucky that it is possible to compensate for lost teeth using different methods.
It is a form of treatment in which neighboring teeth receive support to fill the gaps that arise when one or more teeth are lost. There are two kinds;
-
Fixed dental bridge connections can only be removed by a specialist.
- The movable dental bridge can be removed by the person during mouth cleaning. However, not much is practiced today.
More importantly, the lack of lost teeth affects oral and dental health. Each tooth is designed to complement the other. When one tooth is lost, the other teeth move or, over time, lean into the gap created by the missing tooth. The tooth in the opposite jaw also extends into the gap. These unusual tooth movements cause tension, both on the tooth and in the gums. In addition, the gingiva and bone tissue are destroyed. Teeth are prone to tooth decay because normal natural tooth contact is impaired and physiological cleaning is also hindered.
